Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Inmate Search

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office runs two public-facing tools for looking up recent bookings. The first is their own JPSO Online Inmate Search, available directly on the sheriff's website. The second is the Jefferson Parish LAVINE roster, which connects to the statewide LA VINE notification network. Both pull from the same jail database, so you can use either one.

The JPSO inmate search shows name, date of birth, race, sex, charges, bond amount, and booking date. Mugshots are included for most entries. This is one of the more detailed jail rosters in Louisiana. Jefferson Parish is one of the largest parishes in the state with over 440,000 residents, and the jail reflects that scale with a capacity of around 1,200 beds.

The LAVINE roster updates every 30 minutes and reflects custody changes as they happen at the correctional center.

JPSO Online Inmate Search Portal

The JPSO portal at jpso.com gives you direct access to the sheriff's inmate database. This is a separate tool from the LAVINE roster and is maintained by the sheriff's own IT systems. You can search by name or browse the current list. The data includes mugshots, which are not always available on other parish rosters in Louisiana.

The portal is free to use and does not require an account or registration to view current booking records.

The sheriff's office notes on their site that booking data can change quickly. The official disclaimer reads: the information on this site may not reflect the true charges, status, or other information regarding a case. Use it as a starting point, not a final answer.

The facility holds people who have been arrested and are awaiting trial, as well as those serving short sentences. With roughly 1,200 beds, it is one of the larger parish jails in Louisiana.

Louisiana Law Governing Jefferson Parish Booking Records

Louisiana law makes booking records public. Under R.S. 44:1, public records include all documents, regardless of physical form, that are made or received by a public body in the course of its official activities. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is a public body. Booking records it creates are public records by definition.

R.S. 44:31 backs that up with a clear access right. Every person of the age of majority has the right to inspect, copy, and reproduce public records. You do not need to be a lawyer, a journalist, or a party to the case. Anyone can walk in and ask for booking records. The sheriff's office cannot refuse based solely on who you are.

R.S. 15:587 is the statute that specifically covers arrest records. It defines arrest records as public and applies to all law enforcement agencies in the state. Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office booking data, including names, charges, and booking dates, falls squarely within this statute.

Note: Juvenile arrest records are sealed by law in Louisiana and are never accessible to the general public.

What Jefferson Parish Booking Records Show

Jefferson Parish booking records are among the most detailed in Louisiana. Each record typically includes the person's full name, date of birth, race, and sex. The charges are listed by statute or charge description. You can see the bond amount and whether it has been posted. The booking date tells you when they were brought into the jail.

Mugshots are available for most bookings in Jefferson Parish. This is not the case for every parish in the state. The JPSO has consistently published mugshots as part of their public records policy. The photos are taken at booking and stored with the rest of the inmate record.

What the booking record does not tell you is what happened next. Someone may have been released the same day. Charges may have been dropped. A case may be ongoing or already resolved. The booking record captures the moment of intake, not the full story of the case.

All persons listed in Jefferson Parish booking records are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

LA VINE Notifications for Jefferson Parish

The LA VINE program by LCLE lets you sign up for alerts about a specific person's custody status. If someone you are tracking is released from Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, you get notified automatically. This is free and does not require a law enforcement connection.

You can also use VINELink, the national platform that connects to LA VINE. VINELink covers multiple states, so if someone is transferred out of Louisiana, you may still get updates through that system.

The LA VINE phone line is 866-528-6748. It operates around the clock, every day of the year. Call it to check on a specific person or to register for notifications by phone instead of online.

State Prison Records and Jefferson Parish

When someone in Jefferson Parish is convicted and sentenced to more than a year in prison, they are transferred from the local jail to a state facility. At that point, their records move to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. You can search state inmates using the DPS&C offender search tool.

The DPS&C tool covers people in state prisons, not local jails. If you are looking for someone and they do not appear on the Jefferson Parish roster, check the DPS&C database. They may have been moved to a state facility.
